Invisalign Assist Benefits From New Improved Features

Invisalign has launched a new version of its Invisalign Assist software, expanding its capability and giving dentists the power to treat a wider number of patients. Invisalign Assist is a support programme for Invisalign dentists and their patients to help achieve desired patient outcomes, designed for simple and more complex Invisalign cases that can be treated with aligners only, and based on Invisalign’s technology insights and experience with more than one million Invisalign cases. Invisalign Assist is a programme which helps doctors develop case set-ups, track treatment progress and create appointment-specific task lists, utilising progress and other reporting features throughout treatment.

The latest features include improvements designed to achieve anterior teeth extrusions and canine rotations plus a number of other case scenarios, allowing more cases to qualify for Invisalign Assist. Invisalign Assist, which operates on the same principles as the other Invisalign system products provides checks to identify teeth not moving to plan. Any necessary adjustments in future aligners can then be made to ensure satisfactory treatment.

The latest version of Invisalign Assist software includes features offering more tooth-specific detail and online links to more information for case-specific tasks, including bonding attachments.

Male Diabetes Can Lead To Teeth Loss

Male diabetes sufferers are more likely to suffer tooth loss compared to those who do not have the disease, according to new research. The new study suggests that males with type 2 diabetes are twice as likely to suffer from tooth loss, than those without the illness. The findings came from a major 20 year study presented at the International Association of Dental Research conference in Barcelona. The study followed over 38,000 males from 1986 to 2006 to examine any connections between diabetes and tooth loss or gum disease. 11,478 new cases of tooth loss were reported by the participants and 3,589 new cases of periodontitis.

Eliminating other factors for gum disease such as age, race, smoking habits and alcohol consumption, plus exercise and fruit and vegetable intake, type 2 diabetes was found to be the common factor which increased tooth loss by half. Chief Executive of the British Dental Health Foundation, Dr Nigel Carter says: “These results are quite shocking although we have known for many years that diabetics are more likely to suffer from gum disease, the extent of the increase in such a large study is surprising.

“Numerous studies in the past have shown a link between oral health and other serious illnesses such as cardiovascular disease, stroke and arthritis, and this study highlights again the importance of looking after our teeth properly. It is not just about having a nice smile – it is about overall body health too.”Diet was also found to be a contributing factor to the increased gum disease. Men with diabetes whose fruit and vegetable intake was below average were twice as likely to report periodontitis compared to men with the same fruit and vegetable intake but without diabetes.

Dental Insurance High On Agenda Of UK Firms

A third of UK companies are considering adding a dental benefit this year suggests a new survey from Denplan. The dental plan company survey of 6,000 employers also found that 65 per cent take broker advice before purchasing benefits and that 32 per cent make their decisions on choosing a dental plan, following broker recommendations. Denplan says its 2010 Dental Benefits Survey is specifically designed for brokers to give them the tools and information they need, but it also reveals patterns of interest in dental insurance and dental care payment plans and cover.

Some of the main findings of the report also include that 34 per cent of companies considering adding or removing benefits in 2010 were considering adding a dental plan. 75 per cent of companies questioned believe a dental plan enhances employee wellbeing. The poll suggests a high level of engagement with dental benefits. 53 per cent of the 1,500 employees surveyed believed dental plans were a tangible and useful benefit. Pam Whelan, Denplan’s Corporate Dental Sales Manager says: “Denplan are uniquely placed to gain relevant information from all the players in the dental benefits market; employees, dentists and companies.

“By giving brokers access to this, we are giving them the confidence to sell dental plans to their clients, based on the most relevant and up-to-date market intelligence, making sure their sales approach is optimised for current conditions.” The survey shows amongst other things how important dentistry is to people’s sense of wellbeing. Denplan’s free 2010 Dental Benefits Survey is available at its website: www.denplan.co.uk.

Pop Idol Invests In Teeth Straightening

Crystal Bowersox has revealed she has invested in dental work to straighten her smile and has said it is something she always wanted to do. The American Idol runner-up says she always wanted to have her teeth straightened. “I’ve always wanted to do it,” she told the American media who have fallen in love with the young singer who made such a great impression on Pop Idol. Crystal Bowersox says the procedure has allowed her to feel proud of her smile.

“I’m smiling with pure confidence for the first time in my life. And it’s a good thing,” she said. Crystal Bowersox released the news on Twitter, when she posted a picture of her new look, showing off her brilliant white teeth. Bowersox, an up and coming singer due to her Pop Idol performances; where she narrowly missed out on the top spot, said she had previously turned down an offer to get her teeth done for free earlier this year, but declined, deciding to invest in teeth straightening herself. Crystal Bowersox, who has been performing on the American Idols Live Tour, is an American singer-songwriter from Elliston, Ohio, who was the runner-up on the ninth season of American Idol.

Bowersox is the first female contestant to make it to the final since Jordin Sparks won the title in 2007. She is also the first contestant in American Idol history to have had one of her original songs played on the show. On the final performance on American Idol Simon Cowell called her version of Up to the Mountain outstanding and said it was the best performance and song of the night.

Hollywood Star Admits Minimal Oral Health Routine

Hollywood celebrity Jessica Simpson has confessed she does not brush her teeth regularly, news which has brought condemnation from the British Dental Health Foundation.  The Hollywood star who has had several Billboard Top 40 hits in the USA, a string of platinum albums and has appeared in a handful of hit movies, including 2007’s Blonde Ambition with Luke Wilson, announced on The Ellen DeGeneres Show recently that she only brushes her teeth a few times each week. The glamorous 30 year old actress, model and singer has a stunning set of pearly white teeth but even so British dental experts are warning youngsters not to follow her minimal brushing habits.

The star said on the show: “I only brush my teeth maybe three times a week. I don’t brush every day. “It’s because my teeth are so white and I don’t like them to feel too slippery, but I do use Listerine mouthwash and I do floss every day. My lips just slide all over the place. “I can’t catch up with my mouth. So I need a little coating. I know it’s gross, but I always have fresh breath.” The British Dental Health Foundation emphasises that brushing teeth twice a day is crucial to maintaining a healthy smile.

Chief Executive Dr Nigel Carter says: “Brushing is important because it removes plaque, which if left can build up on the teeth and cause tooth decay and gum disease. “In fact, a good dental care routine can prevent most dental problems and decrease the need for treatments such as fillings and extractions. “Past studies have found connections between oral health and serious illness and conditions such as heart disease, strokes, diabetes and premature births. Caring for teeth should be something everyone makes time to do, as keeping your teeth healthy can help keep your body healthy too.” The Foundation recommends brushing teeth first thing in the morning and last thing at night, for two minutes with fluoride toothpaste. Other dental health advice to create a super orthodontic look includes regular flossing and also avoiding sugary foods.

Invisalign Orthodontic Surgery Produces Impressive Results

The benefits of Invisalign aligners in orthodontic surgery have been identified in a recent issue of the Journal of Clinical Orthodontics (JCO). In its independent report, a focus on an Invisalign/surgical treatment of a Class III orthodontic case, authors reported advances in Invisalign techniques, helping patients achieve impressive aesthetic and functional results.

“This case demonstrates that the Invisalign system can be a worthwhile alternative to fixed appliances for surgical setup of orthodontic cases, especially in skeletal Class III patients, with little need for dental movement,” say the report authors, a group of leading orthodontists. The report identifies the successful use of an Invisalign system with fixed appliances in the pre and post-surgical treatment of Class III patients but in the latest case study a Class III malocclusion patient was prepared for surgery with the Invisalign system alone.

A woman with a protruding jaw and multiple missing teeth benefited from the new treatment, the report says. After removal of ceramic crowns and treatment with the aid of the Invisalign system post-treatment records showed a significant improvement in facial aesthetics from the frontal and lateral perspectives. The report also says that after orthodontic surgery, the case study patient exhibited all round satisfactory improvements to her teeth alignment issues. Class III malocclusions requiring surgery demand precise diagnosis if a predictable treatment outcome is to be achieved.

Pre-surgical orthodontic treatment was rapid and comfortable for this patient, requiring only six months. In the case study the patient was highly satisfied with the functional and aesthetic outcomes of her Invisalign/surgical orthodontic treatment, reporting a significant improvement in her quality of life More detail on this case study, which identifies the effectiveness of Invisalign systems in dental surgery cases, can be found at the JCO website.

Align Technology Trading Figures Imminent

Align Technology is set to announce its trading figures with expected sales of around $90 million dollars – £58 million. Align Technology was founded in March 1997 and began marketing Invisalign aligners in 1998. Today, Invisalign products include Invisalign Full, Invisalign Teen, Invisalign Assist, Invisalign Express, and Vivera Retainers. Invisalign has become the world’s leading invisible orthodontic range. For the full year, analysts expect Align to post Earnings Per Share (EPS) of $0.65. In the same period last year, the company reported EPS of $0.07 on sales of $76 million.

Align, the USA based company, will report its second quarter 2010 financial results on Thursday July 22 after the close of the day’s trading. Financial results will also be available on the Investor Relations section of the company’s website. Following the trading data release, the orthodontics company is hosting a conference call to discuss its financial results. The conference call will begin at 4.30 pm ET – Eastern Time, USA and Canada – and 1.30 pm PT – Pacific Time. In the UK: 7.30 am GMT.

The Align figures will also be available as an audio web cast live via the Internet, again accessible on the Align website. Align Technology Inc is the medical device company engaged in the design, manufacture and marketing of Invisalign orthodontic products.

Invisalign seeks to correct malocclusions using a series of clear, nearly invisible, removable appliances that gently move teeth to a desired final position. Because it does not rely on the use of metal brackets, ceramic brackets and wires commonly associated with dental braces, Invisalign significantly reduces the aesthetic and other day to day limitations associated with orthodontic braces.

Invisalign has proved popular with both teenagers and adults and there have also been a number of widely reported, high profile celebrity Invisalign customers.  The market is still huge in Spain and Portugal, however – with Spain especially accounting for the greatest numbers of UK visitors abroad along with France; and all over the Med, especially island holiday resorts remain very popular, however the news may account for the large number of cheap holidays in Spain and Portugal at the moment. And also the numbers of bargains in the now firmly established but still up and coming destinations of Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia and Turkey. Based on the increasingly competitive nature of the holiday market it is clear that holiday companies are pulling out the stops to bring us some choice holiday deals.

Identical Twins Latest Converts To Invisalign

Twin brother dentists have launched a new dental practice, offering a range of dental treatments including Invisalign teeth aligning services.  The dentists, Elwin and Erwin Hutchins, are identical twins who with more than 60 years combined dental experience, have all the know how to recognise the benefits of Invisalign orthodontic services for their patients.

The two brothers have launched their new dental business in Porterville, California, USA, which is midway between Los Angeles, Las Vegas and San Francisco and also not far from Align Technology headquarters, the parent company of Invisalign, which is based in San Jose, California. Their dental office will be a team practice with the two identical twin dentists, who are also firm friends, working alongside each other.

“It is a wonderful practice and it’s been a big step and one I would not have done by myself, but between the two of us, it will be successful. “We are very happy to be able to offer a full range of services. We do a lot of restorative and anaesthetic type dentistry, root canal therapy and we just completed our latest training: Invisalign for tooth movement,” says Elwin. As well as being a proven dental therapy many commentators account the worldwide success of Align Technology and Invisalign partly due its business model. Align trains and works with Invisalign certified dental practitioners throughout the world to provide its dental products and technology, ensuring there is always a local Invisalign certified dentist.

Damaged, crooked and missing teeth are problems for millions of people worldwide but new advances in dental technology, including Invisalign products, means that new solutions are much more comfortable and effective today.

Oral Hygiene Campaign Shows Big Results In Scotland

Glasgow officials are seeing a turn around in the city’s poor record on children’s dental health, following a massive investment in oral health promotion campaigns.
Glasgow and Clyde, traditionally one of the worst places for child dental decay in Europe, is now seeing a big improvement in kids dental health following a £7 million investment programme. Five years ago a campaign was launched to improve oral health, particularly amongst children.
For the first time in decades the majority of youngsters across the city now have no tooth decay. Almost 60 per cent of 11 year olds have been given a clean bill of health during dental check-ups. That’s 2,500 more than in 2005 and a 19 per cent improvement. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has also seen hospital admissions for dental extractions reduce by 1,000 in five years.
Mandatory teeth brushing sessions in city nurseries and schools and a fluoride varnishing programme are being seen as the main causes for the improving situation.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Director of Oral Health Kevin Hill said:
“We are seeing improvements thanks to projects such as the child tooth-brushing schemes but we still have a long way to go.”
Five years ago around 3,700 children each year in the Greater Glasgow area were being admitted to hospital for dental extractions. The figure now stands at 2,700, which is still one of the highest in the country.
Dentists blame poor diet, especially sugary drinks in feeding bottles.
More than 1,000 primary one and two children have completed a fluoride varnishing programme since March this year.
More than 135,600 oral health promotion packs are now distributed each year via health visitors, nurseries, playgroups, schools and healthy initiative events.

Hospitals Ban Sugary Tea To Improve Dental Health

Hospitals are banning sugar in tea and coffee for dental health reasons officials revealed this week, a move which has been welcomed by the British Dental Health Foundation.
The NHS in Wales is planning to stop the sale of hot drinks containing sugar from vending machines in its hospitals.
The ban is being put in place as sugar in tea or coffee offers no nutritional value and can have a negative impact on dental health.
“It is positive news that the NHS in Wales is looking into ways to improve dental health within hospitals, said Dr Nigel Carter, Chief Executive of the British Dental Health Foundation.

“Sugar does have a damaging impact on teeth. It can cause tooth decay.
“Each time sugar enters the mouth it acts with the bacteria in plaque to form acid and teeth are under attack for an hour. By limiting how often this happens people can protect their teeth.”

The ban in Wales comes after schools were targeted by a health campaign by the Welsh Assembly. The Welsh Assembly is now recommending the sale of water and healthy snacks in hospitals as an alternative. The Dental Health Foundation is also emphasising there are other positive steps that the public can take to improve their dental health.Dr Carter says: “Chewing sugar free gum after eating creates extra saliva in the mouth which can help neutralise acid and prevent tooth decay.”
Visiting a dentist for a check up as often as recommended and brushing twice a day for two minutes with fluoride toothpaste are also essential guidelines for good dental health.

Help Is At Hand For Dental Phobics

Afraid of the dentist? Help may be at hand. Nucalm is a new innovation by American neuroscientists which can calm dental patients who have a fear of sitting in the dentist chair.
The NuCalm device has been designed for dental patients who suffer from anxiety when visiting the dentist.

NuCalm claims to induce a state of deep relaxation even in highly anxious patients, and has received positive reactions from dental patients and dentists.
Using a system known as cranial electrotherapy stimulation (CES) NuCalm consists of a headset and a generator that transmits relaxing electrical frequencies and sounds to the brain. It looks like a set of headphones for a home stereo system.

As well as providing benefits for the patient NuCalm claims to offer a better working environment for the dentist too.
With dental patients calm and still dentists can focus exclusively on their dentistry whether it be orthodontics or standard dental work.
With no anxious or startled patients to deal with dentists can focus on their work and ensure the best possible results so everyone is kept happy.
The patient post-treatment experience is described as a feeling of rejuvenation and relief. NuCalm works by helping the brain achieve calm and provides a neuromuscular release of bodily tension.

Being marketed as a safe alternative to sedatives, NuCalm is administered as soon as the dental patient sits in the chair and takes about three to five minutes before the relaxation therapy kicks in.
Nutrient tablets are chewed. Micro-current stimulation patches are placed behind each ear. Noise-dampening headphones are then used to deliver proprietary neuro-acoustic software. Black-out glasses are also used to negate visual stimuli. The process creates a powerful relaxation experience, perfect for dental procedures.
It is estimated that one in four patients suffer from dental anxiety or some form of dental phobia. Hundreds of people avoid going to the dentist because of fear of the chair each year.

One In Three Brits Fail To Have Regular Dental Check Ups

A GP patient dental survey conducted between January 2009 and March 2010 found that 41 per cent of adults had not tried to see a NHS dentist in the last two years, suggesting that many patients are concerned about the availability of NHS dentistry and the level of service provided.
The most frequent reason for not trying for an NHS dental appointment in the previous two years was that dental patients were staying with their previous dentist when it moved from NHS to the private service. This factor of preferring to go private with their regular dentist was mentioned by 21 per cent of adults.

The next reason was that patients did not think they could get an NHS dental appointment, a response which made up 18 per cent of responses.
The survey, which was carried out by Ipsos Mori on behalf of the NHS will now be used by health officials to identify areas where greater investment is needed and monitor current services.
The new Department of Health GP Patient Survey Dental Statistics also reveals that 59 per cent of respondents tried to obtain an appointment with an NHS dentist in the two year period before March 2010.

A total of 92 per cent of respondents who tried to obtain an appointment within the past two years were successful while eight per cent were unsuccessful.
For 78 per cent of adults the last appointment sought was for routine dentistry; 18 per cent were seeking an urgent appointment and two per cent did not remember the type of appointment.
A total of 81 per cent of the most recent appointments sought were with the dental practice previously attended. In these cases the successful percentage was 95 per cent.

The North East SHA (NHS North East Strategic Health Authority) had the largest percentage of the adult population seeking an NHS dental appointment in the last two years, at 66 per cent, whilst South Central SHA had the smallest, where 52 per cent sought an NHS appointment.
A dental check up every two years is the minimum standard advised for dental healthcare, although for some dental patients every three or six months can be a standard dental check up routine.

Dental Scientists Develop Teeth Regeneration Therapy

A radical and potentially amazing dental therapy is being developed by scientists, which has the potential to bring dead teeth back to life.
Regenerative endodontics, the development and delivery of tissues to replace diseased or damaged dental pulp, could provide a revolutionary alternative to pulp removal or standard root canal work.

Endodontics is a speciality of dentistry dealing with treatments of the tooth pulp and the tissues surrounding the root of a tooth, as opposed to orthodontics which deals with crooked teeth and bite irregularities.
Millions of teeth are saved each year by root canal work offering high success rates but the procedure is a tricky and sometimes time consuming and uncomfortable one which leaves the dead tooth in the mouth.

Scientists have now developed a regenerative approach, involving a combination of nano and dental technology, where diseased or necrotic pulp tissues are removed and replaced with healthy pulp tissue to revitalise teeth – with the aid of what is being described as a nano dental film or gel.
Diseased teeth brought back to life as it were.

The new procedure developed by dental scientist Nadia Benkirane-Jessel and colleagues involves nano (miniscule) sized dental film. The scientists say the technique shows real promise for achieving what has long been considered a potential ideal solution for root and tooth pulp problems.

Nadia Benkirane-Jessel and colleagues have reported that the regenerative endodontic therapy has real potential to provide a revolutionary alternative to pulp removal.

The scientists say the development of a multi-layered, nano-sized film – 1/50,000th of the thickness of a human hair – with a substance that could help regenerate dental pulp is a reality, reducing the need for complicated root canal procedures.
The technology, although only in its early stages, could one day help treat degenerative cartilage and bone diseases too, such as arthritis or osteoporosis.

Cristiano Ronaldo Has Reasons To Smile

Famous former dental brace wearer Cristiano Ronaldo has reasons to smile. Despite Portugal’s elimination from the World Cup finals, in the last 16 game against their arch rivals Spain, the ex Manchester United winger Ronaldo now returns to his current club Real Madrid after a spectacular first Spanish season in which he scored 33 goals and with the expectation of another great season ahead.
The star has also become a father for the first time, more than making up for the heartbreak of the World Cup exit, and offering even more reasons to smile.

And what a smile it is. Handsome football star Cristiano Ronaldo famously wore a dental brace after joining Man Utd from Sporting Lisbon in 2003.
And the 2008 FIFA World Footballer of The Year has since, reportedly, had dental surgery to give him that perfect pure white smile he is now known the world over for. Ronaldo, the most expensive player in football history, following his £80 million deal transfer from Man Utd to Real Madrid, was brought up on the Portuguese island of Madeira and played initially for Portuguese clubs Andorinha, Nacional and then the legendary Sporting Lisbon.

After winning the European Champions League with Man Utd and numerous domestic honours, he joined his dream club Real Madrid, completing an epic first season at the Spanish team last year and is now widely expected to pick up that thrilling form again this season, confirming his status as one of the world’s best players.
Cristiano Ronaldo, the pin up star who has dated a string of beautiful women in recent years including I’m a celebrity Gemma Atkinson, has previously testified that as a youngster he was concerned about the look of his teeth, which were slightly crooked.

The Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter and producer from West London showed off the fantastic results of her dental braces at a recent awards bash in New York.

Estelle had her braces fitted in the US, where she is now based. The Grammy winner best known for her smash hit American Boy featuring Kanye West is going down a storm it seems in the States.Estelle Fanta Swaray was born 18 January 1980 and is now known as Estelle (formerly Est’elle). Dental Misalignment Affecting Millions

A staggering 100 million people worldwide have some degree of malocclusion, the technical term for the misalignment of teeth. The figure is produced based on research assessed by Align technology, the parent company of Invisalign. Although the majority of cases of malocclusion are minor Align says the treatment for those cases that need it with Invisalign aligners can correct malocclusion and create a lasting Invisalign smile.

Using a series of clear, almost invisible, removable teeth aligners teeth can be gently moved into a desirable final position. It’s a treatment which has been successfully implemented for more than a million Invisalign customers worldwide, including many celebrity Invisalign customers. Again, the technical term occlusion refers to the alignment of teeth and the way that the upper and lower teeth fit together; and malocclusion refers to the opposite: the misalignment. Ideally, all upper teeth should fit slightly over the lower teeth but research from health organisations from various countries, including the US and UK, indicates that millions of people suffer from misalignment, often with health consequences, difficulty eating; as well as aesthetic and social consequences.

Generally speaking when teeth are not aligned orthodontic treatment can improve oral function and therefore improve oral health and quality of life. Invisalign treatments vary with each patient. On average a patient requires one full year of treatment, equivalent to 24 sets of aligners. Align Technology designs, manufactures and markets Invisalign, a proprietary method for treating malocclusion, or the misalignment of teeth. Because it does not rely on the use of metal or ceramic brackets and wires, Invisalign, which is appropriate for treating adults and teens, significantly reduces the aesthetic and other limitations associated with braces.

The Invisalign family of products is prescribed to patients through trained Invisalign Orthodontists or General Practitioner Dentists. Align provides clinical education programs and the tools needed for Orthodontists or GP Dentists to offer the treatment options in their practices. Depending on the treatment plan and patient needs, the doctor determines patient pricing for the full consultation and course of treatment, including aligners to the patient.

Align Technology was founded in March 1997 and received FDA clearance to market Invisalign in 1998. The Invisalign products available today include Invisalign, Invisalign Teen, Invisalign Assist, Invisalign Express and Vivera Retainers.

John Grisham’s Dental Brace Wearing Teen Hero

John Grisham looks set to make dental braces cool for young audiences with his new teen novel, introducing teen attorney Theodore Boone.
A first-time for the best-selling author, the new John Grisham novel features teen lawyer Theodore Boone, in what is John Grisham’s first series character.
Theodore Boone is the story of a dental brace wearing youngster who is on the case of a cold-blooded killer…
Young adult fiction is a new venture for lawyer-turned-author Grisham but the novel about a 13-year-old all American hero with an appetite for the law is already a huge success.

John Grisham’s long-time editor Oliver Johnson says: “Theodore Boone is vintage Grisham: great legal drama, a loveable hero who brought a smile to my face and a really satisfying ending, all delivered at breakneck, page-turning speed. It’s going to appeal to young and old alike.”
The story features the precocious only child of two busy lawyers who lives in the small city of Strattenburg. Young Theodore Boone gets called into action when family friend Judge Henry Gantry presides over the trial of local man Peter Duffy, who is accused of murder.
Theodore Boone Kid Lawyer is the essential Grisham unlikely hero, albeit for the first time a thirteen-year-old boy. Theodore knows more about the law than many lawyers three times his age and gets to put his skills to good use when the teen hero finds himself unwillingly caught up in his home town’s first murder trial.

The novel has been attracting good reviews especially from young readers, who like the realism of the character who has been wearing braces on his teeth for two years, along with the intriguing, page turning plot.
The first novel in the Theodore Boone series was published on 10th June. The second book in the series will follow in 2011.

Robert Pattinson, not the only former dental brace wearer on the list, has reportedly accrued an estimated £11 million in the last 12 months alone.
The star, who has been ranked 50th on the Forbes Celebrity 100 Power List, formerly revealed that he had his teeth fixed before appearing in Twilight which was released in 2008.

He reprised his role as Edward Cullen in the Twilight sequels The Twilight Saga: New Moon and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, released 30 June 2010.
The young actor was asked to fix his teeth because producers wanted him to have a smile befitting of his charismatic role.
Robert Pattinson, who plays the hunky vampire Edward Cullen in Twilight, has previously revealed the movie producers were unimpressed with his smile so they asked the then 22 year old to have a dental brace fitted before the shoot.

Oprah Winfrey, yet another celebrity reported to have worn dental braces, reclaimed the top spot on the Forbes List as the most powerful celebrity in the world with £208 million to her name, after last year’s number one celebrity star Angelina Jolie dropped down to 18th position.
Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson’s co-star in the teeth flashing Twilight movies is at 66 on the Forbes list with £7.95 million.

A Quality Smile Leads To Business Success?

One in three Brits think a quality smile can have a positive impact on your career, according to new research conducted by Invisalign.
The results of a nationwide survey revealed that 31 per cent of British workers believe that having a good smile with straight teeth enables them to feel more confident at work, helping them to be successful and move their career forward.
A further 32 per cent said they always noticed someone’s smile and teeth when they first meet them at work or for an interview, confirming first impressions really do count.

Those working in sales, media and marketing are even more convinced of the importance of their smile, with 38 per cent saying this would definitely affect their career opportunities.
The survey reveals that appearance does count in business, and as controversial as it might seem people are also happy to take steps to enhance their natural beauty to gain that competitive edge.
26 per cent of Human Resource Managers were in agreement with the views of many Brits; and think they would be less likely to hire a potential employee if they had an unattractive smile, according to the information released by Invisalign, following an independent survey.

The survey was conducted this year with more than 1,000 workers and 250 Human Resource managers.
There were also a number of interesting regional variations in the findings.
Agreeing with the statement: having a good smile with straight teeth makes people more confident in the workplace, scored the highest approval rating in the East Midlands, with 38 per cent of interviewees there agreeing with it; while Welsh respondents were more likely to agree with the idea that they always notice people’s smiles and teeth when they first meet them at work or for an interview, than other respondents were from around the country.

British Woman Celebrates New Smile With The Aid Of Invisalign

A British woman has benefited from Invisalign braces and orthodontic treatment, and is celebrating a full set of adult teeth for the first time.
Emily Cheeseman, from Tunbridge Wells, previously lived with four baby teeth at the front of her mouth – due to a condition called hypodontia – that meant her adult teeth never grew in place of the baby ones.
The travel executive, 28, has now had her milk teeth replaced with adult-sized implants.
The woman had two implant screws with also crowns fitted – and had Invisalign clear braces fitted to open space in her mouth, so the new adult teeth could be put in. The orthodontic work was completed at her local clinic, the Harman Clinic in Tunbridge Wells.
She was so delighted she was happy to share the story with her local newspaper.

“My new grin is fantastic – I actually do not mind smiling in photos now,” she told website: Kent Online.

The benefits of Invisalign braces are they are near invisible braces consisting of a series of clear, removable trays that are specially designed; and actually fit over your teeth and move them into place by the tooth root.
Each set of plastic trays is worn for around two weeks and only has to be removed for eating and cleaning the teeth.
Invisalign is ideal for adults and those who do not want the look of brackets and wires, ensuring less discomfort and less time in the treatment chair.

Fizzy Drinks Will Damage Your Smile

Dental experts are urging people to ensure their intake of fizzy drinks is kept to a minimum, after a new report revealed an increase in tooth decay related to acidic and sugary drinks.
A new survey has highlighted that a number of people are seriously damaging their teeth through drinking sweet drinks, especially young people.
The results, from the survey carried out by the British Dental Health Foundation, showed that many members of the public are including a large consumption of fizzy drinks and acidic foods in their everyday diet – with around one in seven people having a fizzy drink most days.

The statistic increases to more than one in four of those aged 18 to 30 who drink fizzy drinks regularly, with males more likely than females to drink the stuff.
Those over the age of 60 were the least likely to indulge in sweet refreshments.

A spokesman for the research said:
“Every time you eat or drink something sugary or acidic your teeth are under attack for a whole hour. By limiting the frequency of fizzy drinks, people can limit the amount of time their teeth are put at risk.”
Dental experts say long–term damage can be caused to teeth when sugary or acidic foods are eaten frequently because fizzy drinks have high acidity levels which can damage teeth.
The acid erodes the enamel that acts as a protective layer on a tooth, leaving teeth both sensitive and unsightly.
Some fizzy drinks also have a high sugar content which can lead to problems such as tooth decay.  The sugar can react with the bacteria in the plaque on teeth, producing harmful acids. This can eventually cause a cavity. The survey, based on interviews with more than 1,000 people, found that people are most likely to eat and drink acidic products, such as fruit juices, at lunch time.

Tongue Piercing Can Lead To Orthodontic Problems

Fiddling with a pierced tongue can lead to gaps between front teeth and other health and orthodontic problems, according to new research.
The research carried out at the University at Buffalo, New York, suggests tongue piercing can be a major cause of teeth irregularity problems.
The new report claims people with tongue piercings are likely to push the metal stud up against their teeth causing gaps and other orthodontic problems to arise.
The risks to oral health, have long been suspected from tongue piercing, but the new report reveals that as well as causing tooth gaps, oral piercings can also lead to chipped teeth and oral infections.
To avoid orthodontic problems health experts are warning people to avoid having piercings in their teeth.
Sawsan Tabbaa, author of the study and a professor of orthodontics at the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, said that force over time moves teeth and the results caused by people playing with their studs crop up in a: “very high per cent of the cases”.
Tooth damage was found to be common in both past and current case studies.
The results of research into tongue piercings and their oral health and orthodontic implications were published in the Journal of Clinical Orthodontics.
The study found that tongue piercing can also result in serious injuries, not just to teeth but also haemorrhages, infections, trauma and even brain abscesses.
